Firstly, Mr. Vladimir CHEREPANOV noted that the first edition of Children of Asia Winter Games was a very important event for athletes of the Ural Federal District. At Summer Games, UFD team came fourth among teams from 36 countries and regions.

— We are going to make a worthy competition to other federal districts. I know that the Siberian Federal District claims to be in the first place, but I can say with confidence that we will not be standing aside, — said Mr. CHEREPANOV.

The Minister of Sports and Physical Culture of Sverdlovsk Region added that the Games were a true start-up for all the athletes.

— It is certainly an opportunity to build up the reserve for the country’s national teams. We have athletes that we are proud of, and who are also graduates of the Summer Children of Asia Games. I wish our athletes good luck at the competitions, — added. Mr. RAPOPORT.

To date, selection has been completed for 7 events. Tomorrow the line-up of alpine skiing team will be outlined.

Mr. Dmitry GLUSHKO, the President of the Games International Committee, mentioned that the preparation for the Games was full steam ahead in island region of Sakhalin. The authorities of the region take the responsibility very seriously. The fact that these are children’s games make the efforts more challenging for the host party.

— The athletes who will be arriving at Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk are future young Olympic athletes. That is why we have to provide Olympic Games environment for them. A whole range of working panels is now operating in the region. They are in charge of transportation, catering, and accommodation. In addition to sports program, an amusement park will be operating in the capital city of the region. 1,000 volunteers have already been recruited. They will assist athletes, judges, and guests, — shared Mr. GLUSHKO.

The coach of the Ural Federal District team Mr. Sergei GOGLOV is holding back from mentioning the quantity of medals they are expecting to get.

— You just have to be training, not guessing. We don’t have much snow this year. We’ve been preparing at training camps. I’ve been explaining them that these competitions are a great responsibility, and I prepare them psychologically, — the coach said.
