THE GAMES MOBILE APP LAUNCHED ON SAKHALIN

Students of the Sakhalin State University were engaged in development of the app for the 1st Winter Children of Asia Games. Antonina SHCHETINKINA and Andrey IZOTOV are the app developers.

According to the guys, they had to work on coding and implementing their project 24/7. It was not so easy to develop an app from scratch, because they were to study the detials of creating such platforms only in the next academic semester.

– We have a special course for development of mobile applications, but the guys haven’t yet taken it. It turns out they are ahead of their group now. They started this job very enthusiastically, so the app has turned out to be very nice, given that it was created it in just a month and a half, — said Ms. Natella VASHAKIDZE Associate Professor of Informatics, Sakhalin State University.

An experienced professional Ilya PAK, who has already developed other applications, such as RocketGo, helped the students. The application operates both in English and Russian. It has several sections: News, Games Schedule, Medal Standings, Photos, Map, and Help. Users can look up the location of all sports venues, which will be hosting the competition, as well as current Schedule of Games. The app will also notify you when a competition starts.

– We enjoyed working on this project. It was difficult to test it on IOS platform, because we had neither an iPhone nor a MacBook, but the organizers of the Games provided us with equipment. We understood the system soon, and everything went well, – said Antonina SHCHETINKINA.

Today users of Android OS can download the beta version of the application in the Play Market. A build for Apple device owners is being currently tested. The app will be operating full-steam on the Games Opening Day.
