A corresponding letter signed by Mr. Grigory ORDZHONIKIDZE, Secretary General, Commission of the Russian Federation for UNESCO, and Ambassador-at-large, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, was received by the Organizing Committee of the Children of Asia Games.

‘Taking into account the significance of holding an event of this level in Russia, the Commission is ready to provide its aegis,’ – says the official letter to Mr. Dmitry GLUSHKO, President of the Children of Asia Games International Committee. ‘Let me use this opportunity and express my gratitude for the development of physical education and sports among young people, as well as for the strengthening friendly relations between nations.’

According to the Head of the region, Mr. Valery LIMARENKO, support from a reputable international organization, and an opportunity to use the logo of the Commission of the Russian Federation for UNESCO will certainly help to hold the competitions at the highest level.

Recall earlier, the Games have received the patronage of the International Olympic Committee. This, in particular, gives a permission to use the Olympic symbols at the event.

The Opening Ceremony of the 1st Winter Children of Asia International Sports Games will take place in three days – on February 9 at 6 p.m. at Spartak Stadium of Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk.

About 1,200 athletes from 20 countries will take part in the competitions. Among them are Kazakhstan, Mongolia, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Nepal, the Republic of Korea, Thailand, Hong Kong, Jordan, Tajikistan, the Philippines, Japan, Afghanistan, Kyrgyzstan, the United Arab Emirates, India, Kuwait, Syria, Armenia. Russia will be represented by teams from Moscow, Tatarstan, Bashkortostan, Sakha (Yakutia), Sakhalin Region, as well as Siberian, Ural, and Far Eastern Federal Districts. Medals will be awarded in eight sports: alpine skiing, snowboarding, biathlon, cross-country skiing, ski jumping, figure skating, short track and ice hockey.
